Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
- The percentage of fully participating TDSB students who were successful on the OSSLT in 2023-24 is 1.1 percentage points lower for First Time Eligible (FTE) students than the 2022-23 TDSB results (84% compared to 85.1%), and in line with the Province that is now at 84.5% for FTE students.
- Previously Eligible (PE) students who were successful on the OSSLT in 2023-24 went down by 15.3 percentage points (50.0% compared to 65.3%). This is in line with the Province that also went down by 11.2 percent points to 51.7%; note that the number of participating PE students in the TDSB dropped from 6,771 in 2022-23 to 2,935 in 2023-24, which had an impact on the percentage point decline of successful students.
- Extreme caution should be considered in making any inferences in relation to the 15.3 percentage point decline for PE students as this decline is most likely due to the resettling of the system in relation to the disruption of service to the OSSLT. The current 50% pass rate is now in line with pre-Pandemic percentages as is the number of students within this category.
- The TDSB's Literacy Strategy 2024-2027 will ensure that all students achieve high levels of literacy regardless of their background or social identity. A focus will be placed on providing specific oral language, reading and writing instruction and learning experiences that cultivate a sense of joy, engagement and belonging.
