Application and Admissions Process

TDSB has a wide range of Elementary Alternative Schools available to students. Families are encouraged to research schools and programs to learn about the educational philosophy and distinct pedagogy before completing the online application.

Elementary Alternative Schools will hold information sessions and/or open houses for students, parents/guardians/caregivers from November to January. Visit the Elementary School Open Houses and Information Nights web page for dates and times. If the school is not hosting an open house or information session, please contact the school directly for information about the Elementary Alternative School.

Note: Student’s Primary Home Address is the address where the applicant is currently residing. If you own property in Toronto, but tenants reside at this property, you may not use this address as a claim of Toronto residency. You must apply based on the current address where you live. If your current TDSB school does not have this address on record, please provide them with documentation to support the proof of residency immediately.

Important Information

 

  1. Class size and special education support are the same in Elementary Alternative Schools as they are in regular TDSB elementary schools. 
     
  2. Families should plan to attend schools’ information sessions and/or open houses for students, parents/guardians/caregivers held in November to January. Visit the Elementary School Open Houses and Information Nights web page for dates and times.
  3. Families are encouraged to research schools and programs to learn about the unique educational philosophy and distinct pedagogy at each Elementary Alternative School and how they differ from regular school programming.
     
  4. If your child has a physical disability, it is recommended that you contact the Elementary Alternative School you are interested in applying for to ensure that your child’s physical needs can be met.

 

Key Dates

The application and placement process for September 2025 has concluded.

The waitlists have expired, and no further offers will be made.

The application process for September 2026 will open in January 2026.
