On Friday, March 15, the Minister of Education announced a number of significant funding reductions that will result in a loss of approximately $20 million for the Toronto District School Board’s 2019-20 budget. The Minister also announced that the secondary school class size average will increase from 22 students to 28 over the next four years. This will impact staffing allocations and translates into the loss of approximately 800 high school teachers. At the March 20 Board Meeting, Chair Robin Pilkey and Director of Education John Malloy took a moment to address these changes and the statements are now available below.
