Update for TDSB Students and Families from Director John Malloy

Categories: News Releases

As you know, the TDSB continues to work toward resuming learning amid ongoing school closures as a result of COVID-19. We know that our TDSB community has a number of questions and we are working tirelessly to ensure that we can help provide clarity during these uncertain times. Working with the Ministry of Education, we are developing a plan that will connect teachers to their students and/or their parents/guardians on a system-wide basis and will restore teacher-led learning to the greatest extent possible as of April 6, 2020.

As we plan for April 6, the Board is working to ensure that as many students as possible have the opportunity to resume learning at the same time. These important preparations include reaching out to families and students to understand their access to devices and the internet. Staff are making calls to thousands of families to help make this connection. As you can appreciate, this is an enormous undertaking, but a necessary one if we are to reach our goal of starting the restoration of learning remotely with as many students and families as possible connected. We do not want to leave thousands of students and their parents behind when learning resumes on April 6.

For our TDSB students, we know this is a challenging time, but we are working very hard to finalize our plan so that learning can continue. We believe it is important for students to feel reconnected to their teachers and, where possible, their classroom peers. We are facing an extraordinary situation that is affecting each of us in different ways and we know students are experiencing a wide range of emotions as a result. Mental health and well-being is especially important now and that’s why we have posted resources to help students during this period. We want to hear from you, connect with you, and help you.
