TDSB Schools Moving to Remote Learning After April Break

Monday, April 12, 2021
Categories: Happenings @ TDSB

Good Evening TDSB Families,

The Government of Ontario announced today that all schools in the province, including those at the TDSB, will be moving to remote learning following the April break. This decision is in response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants, and the spike in hospital admissions.

Beginning on Monday, April 19, in-person schools will provide remote learning to students and TDSB virtual schools will continue as normal. The government has not yet provided a date for a return to in-person learning. As part of today’s announcement, the government indicated that data will be assessed on an ongoing basis and health officials will be consulted to determine when it will be safe to resume in-person learning.

Students With Special Education Needs
As part of today’s announcement, the Government of Ontario stated that school boards are expected to provide in-person support for students with special education needs who have complex medical and learning needs and cannot be accommodated through remote learning based on student needs. Typically, this includes students attending congregated sites and students in DD ISP in integrated settings. Please speak with your child’s principal, beginning on Monday, April 19, if you believe in-person learning may be required. As it will take time for schools to prepare to welcome these students and arrange transportation, classes will not begin prior to Wednesday, April 21.

Child Care/Extended Day Programs
All child care programs serving infant, toddler and preschool-age children located inside TDSB schools may remain open. Parents should confirm with their child care program provider if they will be open. While schools are closed, all TDSB Extended Day Programs and Before- and After-School Programs will also be closed.

We understand that today’s announcement by the Government of Ontario is difficult to hear. The multiple transitions between in-person and remote learning this school year have been a challenge for everyone and we will continue to do everything we can to support students and families. Additional information or details about remote learning following the April break will be provided directly to families by their child’s school and/or teacher as soon as possible.

Take care and stay safe.
