As we wrap up the 2019-20 school year, we have seen many celebrations and graduations go virtual. Schools across the TDSB are continuing to hold their own celebrations for students, taking an opportunity to recognize their hard work and accomplishments.
In partnership with the City of Toronto, Mayor John Tory has proclaimed June 24, 2020 as Grad Day to recognize our students, staff and TDSB community. Today, the Toronto sign at City Hall will also be lit up in honour of our graduating students.
Proclamation
Grad Day
June 24, 2020
WHEREAS on Grad Day the City of Toronto proudly congratulates the graduating classes of 2020.
Many schools have held virtual graduation ceremonies and grads and their families are also celebrating from home as students from elementary and high school, college and university mark these major milestone achievements.
Congratulations to all graduates across the City of Toronto! Your dedicated efforts in class and the hard work you put into all of your assignments have helped you reach this incredible achievement.
We thank your teachers, parents, family, and friends who have been supportive of you each step of the way.
Although formal graduation ceremonies aren’t taking place due to the pandemic, it is still important to find ways to mark these important moments in the lives of so many young people. We wish you great success and happiness as you graduate and move into the next stage of your life.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor John Tory, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim June 24, 2020 as “Grad Day” in the City of Toronto.
Although the class of 2020 may not be marking their graduation celebrations quite the way they had hoped to, the 2019-20 Student Senate has created a video message for our graduates.
