Robin Pilkey, Trustee for Ward 7 (Parkdale High Park), will step-down as Chair of the Toronto District School Board,
effective August 10, 2020.
After five years at the helm of Canada’s largest school board, Pilkey, who will continue to serve as a Trustee
for Ward 7 (Parkdale High Park) has decided to step away from the role as Chair. Pilkey, who was not planning to
seek another term as Chair in the fall, believes the Board should have a new Chair in place now to ensure leadership
continuity during the process of selecting and appointing a permanent Director of Education.
It is expected that a new Chair will be elected at a special board meeting on August 10, 2020.
Quick Facts
· First elected in as Chair in August 2015, Pilkey becomes
the longest serving TDSB Chair since
amalgamation.
“The Board has come a
long way and overcome a number of significant challenges since I first assumed the role five
years ago. It has truly been one of the greatest honours of my life to be Chair of the TDSB.
While I had intended to step down as Chair later in the year, I believe now is the right
time. Given the importance of the upcoming search for a permanent Director of Education, I
felt it was necessary to make this decision now to ensure the greatest amount of stability
as we move through the recruitment process.”
