Central Toronto Academy Recognizes Green Shirt Day

Categories: Great Things

The grade 11 students in Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology at Central Toronto Academy recognized the first-ever Green Shirt Day initiative and have been exploring the organ donation initiative’s relation to cultural anthropology. One year after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in which 13 people tragically lost their lives, the day honours the victims and the need for organ donations. Green Shirt Day was inspired by the late Broncos player Logan Boulet who saved six lives after signing his donor card.

In the one year since the Humboldt Bronco bus crash, these CTA students took action, inspired by the events and wore green to discuss how a cultural anthropologist would analyze the impact within our culture and our country. This grade 11 class has been studying how the Humboldt Broncos bus crash has brought the country together, and in particular, the attention it has brought organ donation because of Logan Boulet.

This is the first Green Shirt Day initiative at the TDSB. This grade 11 class is paving the way with this new awareness campaign with the hope that more schools will come on board next year.
