Mandate

Our mandate is to provide consistent, responsive representation of all TDSB students at the appropriate levels, and to help ensure students' needs and interests are met with the proper attention.
 

Our Roles

Duties of Student Trustees

  • Sit at Board and Public Standing Committees
  • Participate in discussions on all matters except those dealing with private matters
  • Be invited to all official Board functions
  • Uphold and promote the Board's mission and values in the performance of duties
  • Attend all Executive and regular TDSB Student Senate meetings
  • Inform Executive of policies (which affect students) brought to Board for consideration of Standing Committee to assist them in the preparation of the TDSB Student Senate meeting
  • Have a regular role on Student Senate agenda to report and to seek input
  • Present the students' voice at the public session of the Board and Standing Committees

Duties of the Executive Positions

President

  • Acts as the primary spokesperson for the Student Senate
  • Sets meeting dates and sets agenda in consultation with Executive and Staff Advisors
  • Chairs all Executive meetings and Student Senate meetings
  • Is responsible for ensuring the Executive implements initiatives of the Student Senate
  • Is a member of all committees
  • Helps facilitate communication among Executive Members and representatives from the 4 Learning Centres
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee

Vice President

  • Performs the duties of the President when the President is not available
  • Performs specific duties as assigned by the President
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee
  • Serves as Executive Liaison with one of the Learning Centres

Secretary/Treasurer

  • Is responsible for taking minutes and attendance of all Executive and Student Senate meetings
  • Produces the agenda in consultation with the President
  • Produces and distributes the minutes in a timely fashion
  • Maintains correspondence with other groups as required
  • Keeps accounts of money spent as well as requests for meetings and conferences
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee
  • Serves as Executive Liaison with one of the Learning Centres

Conference Chair

  • Organizes and chairs the committee to plan the Annual Student Senate Conferences held throughout the year
  • Liaises with Staff Advisors regarding the conferences
  • Coordinates the promotion of the conferences with students across the TDSB
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee
  • Serves as Executive Liaison with one of the Learning Centres

Communications Officer

  • Liaises with Communications and Public Affairs to support the communication needs of Student Senate activities
  • Liaises with other school boards' Student Councils
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee
  • Serves as Executive Liaison with one of the Learning Centres

Alternative Schools' Representative

  • Acts as a liaison between the Student Senate and Alternative Schools
  • Presents opinions, ideas and concerns from alternative schools in the TDSB
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and occasional invitational event and committee

Learning Centre Co-Chair

  • Liaise with the other LC Co-Chair and their respective Staff Advisor(s) to organize and promote their respective LC meeting and report back to Executive Student Senate
  • Connect with the Student Trustees regarding the LC Student Voice questions which are to be discussed at LC meetings
  • Is willing to commit time to ensure the success of Student Senate initiatives and activities
  • Attends all Executive and Student Senate meetings and the occasional invitational event and committee
