Joseph Burr Tyrrell (1858 – 1957) was a great Canadian explorer, scientist, geologist, historian and cartographer. Tyrrell was one of Canada's most well-known geologists and explorers and mapped out vast stretches of its northern lands. He discovered the rich dinosaur beds of southern Alberta and important coal beds at Drumheller, Alta, and Fernie, B.C. He was a miner in the Klondike Gold Rush and in northern Ontario.
