Sir Alexander Mackenzie Senior Public School

Sir Alexander Mackenzie Senior PS officially opened on January 20, 1972. Our school is named after Sir Alexander Mackenzie.  Sir Alexander Mackenzie was a fur trader and an explorer.  He became famous for exploring and charting many unknown areas in Canada in the late 1700s.  Sir Alexander Mackenzie completed two expeditions, one in 1789 and another in 1793.  He was the first European to cross North America overland.  During his 1789 journey he reached the Arctic Ocean and in 1793 he reached the Pacific Ocean.  The Indigenous people described the routes to him.  The Mackenzie River in Canada is named in his honour.
