Racism and hate have no place in our school communities. But we know many of you deal with it every day. That is why we are looking to you and to hear your voices (loudly!) on how to make positive change in the TDSB and beyond. 

We are launching a Student Equity Collective. It’s a new type of leadership opportunity here in the Board and we are excited about its potential to make positive change and address racism, hate and discrimination in the TDSB.

This is an opportunity to not only sit at the table, but to design what the table looks like, drive the conversation, and bring ideas, solutions and recommendations forward that address what you want to address.

We’re looking to hear from a variety of diverse voices and identities from all across our system.

An information session providing a step-by-step walkthrough of the application process, the selection criteria and the available supports to complete the application will be hosted on Thursday, January 20 at 5:30 p.m. To register for the information session, please fill out the registration form.

Who You Are

A TDSB student in Grade 7 to 11 with an understanding of, and commitment to, addressing racism, hate and all forms of discrimination. 
 

What You Bring 

You should bring a passion and enthusiasm for collaborative problem-solving, idea generation and change. 

Some things you may have done include:

  • Providing leadership in promoting culturally responsive and anti-racist practices in school-based initiatives
  • Working collaboratively with peers and school personnel to further change 
  • Recognizing and acting to prevent occurrences of racism and hate
  • Identifying and encouraging the use of human rights education within school and community-based initiatives

No formal leadership experience (e.g. Student Councils, Student Senate) is required.

Your Application

Be creative! Your proposal can be any format -- video, audio, TikTok, document -- and should be reflective of you. Some things to include:  

  • A description of your personal perspectives/daily lived experiences and commitment to anti-racism and anti-hate.
  • An overview of anti-racist school-based and community leadership experiences. 
  • Two references from TDSB staff or community leaders describing your work within anti-racism and anti-hate initiatives.
