R H King Academy

School History

Reginald H. King, a veteran of the WWI, was a life-long educator. He began his career as a high school teacher in Newmarket, and in 1922 served as the first principal of Scarborough High School. He remained in that position until 1954, when he became the Scarborough Board of Education's first Director of Education. The school became a collegiate in 1930 and was renamed R.H. King Collegiate in 1954 in honour of Dr. R.H. King, the principal for the first 32 years. R. H. King C.I. became an Academy in 1989-90.
