Trustee Michelle Aarts - Ward 16

Welcome to the Ward 16 webpage

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my Ward web page. Whether you are a student, parent or resident, as your appointed representative for the TDSB, it is my role to advocate on your behalf. On the TDSB site, and on this page, you can stay informed on what’s happening at the Board, including policies under review, program updates and discussions around new initiatives to improve student success.

On this site, you can also learn more about ways you can get involved and participate in the education process, like attending Board meetings or checking out other volunteer opportunities. Education is a shared responsibility, and I welcome and encourage your participation in our public school system.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) would like to invite you to a virtual public meeting about proposed changes to the shared attendance boundaries for Don Mills MS, Valley Park MS, Marc Garneau CI, Don Mills CI, and East York CI.

A Local Feasibility Team, composed of TDSB central staff and local principals, has been established to explore options. The proposed changes include:

  • Directing the shared secondary attendance area between Marc Garneau CI and East York CI solely to East York CI.
  • Directing a portion of the shared secondary attendance area between Marc Garneau CI and Don Mills CI solely to Don Mills CI.
  • Directing the corresponding portion of the shared intermediate attendance area between Valley Park MS and Don Mills MS solely to Don Mills MS.

These proposed changes align with guiding principles outlined in the TDSB’s Long-Term Program and Accommodation Strategy (LTPAS), to “establish consistent attendance boundaries across the TDSB by reviewing instances of shared boundaries where multiple schools serve students based on home address.”

Details about the proposed attendance boundary change will be presented at a public meeting where parents/guardians/caregivers and community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions.
