Welcoming, school-based child care programs offer students a seamless day of learning at one location.
For our youngest learners, child care is often their first introduction to a school environment and can help smooth the transition to Kindergarten. Programs offer early learning opportunities, designed to promote gross and fine motor skills and language, cognitive, social and emotional development.
The TDSB currently has more than 300 fee-based child care sites in our schools with programs, from infant to 12 years, though ages served varies by location. Programs are licensed and operate under the Day Nurseries Act and are regulated by Toronto Public Health and Children’s Services. Most school-based child care centres offer spaces subsidized by the City of Toronto.
Children with special needs are eligible to access child care and appropriate supports in their neighbourhood. Families looking for an early childhood program or developmental supports for their child with special needs can phone CITYKIDS at 416-920-6543.
