On Wednesday, August 26, TDSB staff hosted a backpack filling party at Gosford PS, along with Newstalk 1010, Healthy Planet and InComm Canada (Vanilla Visa and Petro Canada) who generously donated $10,000 (monetary and in-kind) to this year’s Backpack and School Supplies Drive.
Thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers, more than 260 backpacks were filled with supplies such as notebooks, calculators, rulers and pencils. These backpacks, along with others that have already been filled, will be delivered to schools ahead of the first day to give students the confidence and resources they need to thrive in school this year.
Since it began in 2021, more than 2,400 students and 215 schools have benefitted from the TDSB’s Backpack and School Supplies Drive. As part of this campaign, 100% of all donations (in-kind and monetary) go to benefit TDSB students. The Backpack and School Supplies Drive helps to remove barriers to student learning so that all students feel a sense of belonging and can focus on achievement inside and outside of the classroom.
