The TDSB is proud to announce the Top Scholars for the 2023-24 school year. These three inspiring students earned the highest overall averages of all graduating Grade 12 students in the TDSB this year:
Elina Tabrizi
Jarvis CI
Jarvis CI graduate Elina Tabrizi finished her Grade 12 year with an impressive overall average of 99.8%. Some of the subjects she found most interesting and challenging this year were Biology and Functions. During her time at Jarvis, Elina had many wonderful teachers, but two that stand out to her are her Functions teacher, Mr. Marshall and her History teacher, Ms. Sgouromitis who supported her both inside and outside of the classroom.
Elina credits some of her success to her diligent study habits, which also allowed her to spend time taking part in extracurricular activities and socializing with friends. Outside of academics, Elina also spent her time at Jarvis CI playing volleyball, practising contemporary dance, and taking part in the yearbook and prom committees. Elina will be attending Queen’s University this September to study Health Sciences. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her two biggest inspirations, her parents, who are both doctors.
Emma Brijlall Nakahara
Virtual School
Emma Brijlall Nakahara, a graduate of the TDSB’s Virtual Secondary School, finished the 2023-24 school year with an overall average of 99.7%. In addition to this outstanding academic achievement, Emma also made it a priority to take part in a variety of extracurricular activities to broaden her high school experience. She participated in the newsletter, yearbook and tutoring clubs at her school. Outside of school, Emma also spent her time practising judo and volunteering with the High Park Nature Centre and the Toronto Public Library Teen Council.
In September, Emma will be attending the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus to study Conservation, Policy, and Creative Writing.
Arisha Mahey
Northview Heights SS
Arisha Mahey, a graduate of Northview Heights SS, finished Grade 12 with a remarkable overall average of 99.6 %. In addition to her hard work in the classroom, Arisha was President of her school’s Business Club and Art Club, and Co-President of her school’s Tutoring Club, as well as a member of a variety of other school clubs and groups. She also played on Northview’s Indoor and Outdoor Varsity Soccer Team.
Arisha enjoyed Data Management and Financial Securities classes the most this year. While English isn’t typically her favourite subject, she enjoyed her experience in Grade 12, especially studying the novel 1984 by George Orwell.
In September, Arisha will be studying Management and Organizational Studies at Western University with the Ivey Advanced Entry Opportunity status.
Congratulations to Elina, Emma and Arisha on their impressive achievements. The TDSB family wishes them all the best next year and in the future!
