In a momentous event that captured the essence of history, tradition, and community, Danforth Collegiate Technical Institute marked its 100th anniversary with a series of celebrations this October. The events began with an exciting ceremony to unveil the school’s 100-year-old time capsule from behind a 500-pound cornerstone on the school's front lawn.
The Time Capsule: A Journey Back to 1922
Placed behind the cornerstone on June 29, 1922, the time capsule offered a window into the lives and times of the school’s early years. More than a dozen items were carefully retrieved, including daily newspapers of the era, attendance records, and a labour directory. The time capsule was a great opportunity to reflect on the school's rich history while also launching a new initiative: creating another time capsule for future generations. This new capsule aims to give students a century from now a glimpse into the life and achievements of today's Danforth CTI community.

Centennial Anniversary Celebration
Alumni, students and staff, were joined by Mayor of Toronto Olivia Chow for the official Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 28, 2023 which featured decade rooms showcasing the school’s history, self-guided school tours, musical performances, including a special appearance by acclaimed Toronto composer & pianist Thompson Egbo-Egbo. On display was an exceptional gingerbread house of the school, which took students Carla and Riley five days to create. In a show of enduring school spirit, alumni and students squared off in friendly Volleyball and Basketball games.
The 100th-anniversary celebration served not just as a commemoration of Danforth CTI’s glorious past, but also as a bridge to its promising future. Thank you to the staff, students, alumni and volunteers who contributed to a successful celebration of a century of educational excellence while setting the stage for the next 100 years.
