Bloor CI student wins big in E.U. science contest

Categories: News

Arushi Nath, who joined Bloor Collegiate this year, represented Canada at the 2023 European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS), which took place in Brussels in September. In May 2023 she was the Top Award Winner at the Canada-Wide Science Fair for the second year in a row, and therefore got to represent Canada.

Arushi won the Second Prize from among 136 young scientists aged 14 to 20 from 36 countries. At 14, Arushi was the youngest participant and winner. Arushi’s submission was an algorithm she created to study asteroids heading towards earth, specifically to determine an asteroid’s physical properties and the success of deflection missions. Following her win, Arushi was invited to give a presentation to the staff of the Canadian Space Agency.

You can learn more about Arushi’s project on her website. You can also read a profile about her on CBC News Kids.
