Possible TTC Strike

UPDATE: The TTC and ATU Local 113 have reached a “framework settlement” and, as a result, the union has put the strike on hold. Friday, June 7 will proceed as business as usual for TDSB staff and students.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers and Secondary Students,

As you may be aware, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is currently in labour negotiations and workers could strike as early as 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024.

As a TTC strike will impact all who use the transit system and will result in an increase in traffic, we are sharing information today to help with any preparations that may be needed.

All TDSB elementary schools have a PA Day on Friday, June 7 and students will not be attending class. However, all secondary schools will remain open, as it is a regular school day. Travelling to and from school may be a challenge for some, so we would ask students and families to please plan accordingly and leave enough time to arrive on time.

Childcare centres located in TDSB schools will be permitted to stay open. Parents/guardians/caregivers should contact their childcare for more information.

Busing for secondary students will continue as usual on Friday but students and families should expect delays. All other students should explore alternate methods of transportation including carpooling or biking and/or walking in order to get to school.

Thank you for your understanding as we all prepare for what could be a challenging time to get around in our city. Further updates will be provided should new information become available or should any possible strike continue into next week.

Please visit the TTC website for the most recent and up-to-date information about labour negotiations. Information about the TTC strike as it pertains to TDSB schools will be shared at www.tdsb.on.ca.

Thank you.
