Google Translate Limitations Disclaimer

The electronic translation service on the Toronto District School Board website is hosted by Google Translate, a third party service. The TDSB does not guarantee or warrant the reliability, accuracy or completeness of any translated information.

The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 100 languages, but does not capture all languages or dialects.

The basic translation goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material. Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you or may affect any decisions you make.

The Toronto District School Board is committed to equity and community engagement, and by providing this tool, we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

This message is to advise that our office is now open and offering limited services. For the safety of our staff and clients, we would like to share our COVID-19 protocols, as outlined by Toronto Public Health.

  1. We will continue to also offer virtual services, where possible.
  2. In-person service is limited, so one-on-one meetings, if required, will be available by appointment only.
  3. Classes will be offered in blended format – combination of virtual and in-person classes.
  4. Prior to entering the centre, staff and visitors are required to complete the online COVID self-assessment available at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/ and provide a confirmation that it was completed. If anyone is feeling unwell or have any symptoms, they should not enter the centre. We encourage those with symptoms to get tested at the nearest COVID-19 Assessment Centre: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/assessment-centre-locations/
  5. All staff and visitors must wear a face mask or covering, sanitize hands and adhere to physical distancing requirements.
  6. Signage about hand washing and proper respiratory etiquette will be prominent in the centre.
  7. We ask that visitors come the centre alone to avoid crowding.
  8. Routine cleaning of general facilities and enhanced cleaning of high touch surfaces such as door handles.

Please email studio500@tdsb.on.ca or call 416-394-6961 for more information. A staff member will respond as soon as possible.

Hairstyling Training

You can become a fully certified and licensed hairstylist with Ministry-accredited hairstylist pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs with Studio 500.

About 90 per cent of the program involves on-the job training by sponsors of training employers and the rest is theoretical training through a community college or by an approved training delivery agent such as Studio 500.

Because the training is on-the-job, there are opportunities to earn while you learn and develop skills that are in high demand. Apprentices may qualify for a training allowance, employment insurance and/or an apprenticeship grant while attending school.

Studio 500 Hairstyling Apprenticeship Program is funded and supported by the provincial government, through Employment Ontario. Registered apprentices pay only 10% of the tuition cost which is $400 plus GST.  Studio 500 also provides a complete tool kit, including everything you will need to be successful during your training, and text book with exam materials.

To become a hairstyling apprentice:
  • Find an employer to hire and sponsor your training
  • Sign a training agreement with your employer that is prepared by an Apprenticeship Branch consultant.
  • After completion of the apprenticeship – including in-school accreditation and salon work – you are eligible to write the provincial Certificate of Qualification examination to become a licensed hairstylist in Ontario.
