H J Alexander Community School's Mission Statement

H.J. Alexander Community School is located in the community of Weston on the corner of King Street and George Street. The original school was built in 1892. It was replaced by a new building in 1958. The third school on the original site was officially opened in September 1995. 
 
In addition to our regular programs from JK to Grade 5, we offer programs for English Language Learners and Reading Intervention.  Approximately 500 children contribute to a learning environment that is rich with an exciting diversity of languages and cultures.

Vision and Goal

H.J. will create an inclusive school environment that increases the well-being of all students by providing equity of access to resources/strategies to help them achieve.

H.J. students will gain the skills to be academically and emotionally successful by approaching learning experiences and responding to them in a manner that supports their learning and well-being.

Achievement in Literacy / Numeracy

 Achievement: As a result of past assessments, our school will implement or continue the following strategies:
- differentiated instruction;
- literacy blocks to include balanced literacy approach;
- high-yield instructional strategies;
- descriptive Feedback;
- three-part math lessons;
- cross-curricular planning to implement 'big ideas' approach;

Equity

To ensure continued success and to focus on providing relevant instruction for our students, we will:
- use student profiles and class profiles to provide culturally relevant materials;
- implement CRRP and Equity resources to promote social justice and character development;
- focus on cross-curricular lessons and Global Competencies

Well-Being

To further enhance community engagement, our school will focus on the following strategies:

- continue to support character education and conflict resolution programs;
