Earl Haig Public School's Mission Statement
Earl Haig P.S. is a proud community school presently offering FDK through to Grade 8. Our dedicated staff work closely with our parents and school community members to enable and support all of our students to reach high levels of achievement. Currently we have over 650 students, 240 of whom are in childcare sharing many spaces in our beautiful building.
We are also an growing French Immersion school and offer classes from JK through Grade 5. We have a highly committed and caring School Advisory Council that assists us in enriching the lives of our students and building community partnerships. We offer all of our learners the opportunity to be involved in the school’s many extra-curricular activities and clubs.
School Council
Our active and supportive School Advisory Council is committed to open communication, representation at Ward Council meetings, supporting teachers and classrooms, fundraising for the school and supporting many exciting special events. S.A.C. parent meetings take place every month in the Music Room at 7pm. Childcare is provided for free. Please see the Earl Haig Public School Newsletter for our meeting dates. Extra-Curricular Activities
Our school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities which provide enrichment opportunities for all students. These include many sports teams, house leagues, activities and clubs. Our school also offers the International Languages Program (Cantonese, Spanish).
Eco-Schools
Earl Haig is proud to be a Platinum Level "Ecoschool". We have an active composting and recycling program, and many schoolyard greening projects. Eco-literacy is integrated in many areas of the school program.
Safe and Caring Schools
The safety and well-being of our students are paramount. Our school has developed a Code of Conduct based on the "TRIBES" agreements which is reviewed annually. Restorative Practices are used to support our students' social skills and interactions every day. Student Council support school spirit with themed spirit days, and a variety of student led initiatives.
Student Life - Where You Belong
GO TEAM
Earl Haig is a busy place! We offer classes from JK to Grade 8. We are also a emerging French Immersion school currently offering classes from SK through Grade 3. Next school year in 2019-2020, we will have our first FI Grade 4 classroom. We have an energetic and committed staff who run a large variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs. These extra-curricular activities which provide enrichment opportunities for all students include many sports teams, house leagues, yoga, choir, music club, knitting, reading club, Robotics team and clubs, folk dancing, board games club, painting club, and maker module Junior STEAM club, swimming team, knitting, Eco Eagles, French Homework club, Rainbow Connection (our Gay Straight Alliance -Gender Justice Group) Coding Club, Karaoke Choir, Student Council and many others. After school on Mondays, our school also offers International Languages Program (Cantonese, Spanish and American Sign Language). Many of our students all have the opportunity to participate in swimming at Earl Beatty P.S. which is a short walk from our school.
WHAT SETS US APART
We are especially proud of our amazing nutrition programs, including hot lunch for students who eat at school, as well as a Kindergarten snack program which consists of the three food groups. Our programs are run by our fabulous Nutrition Program Co-ordinator and support staff, who cook and serve the food on a daily basis. We also have many student volunteers who help serve lunch .
We are also proud of our Platinum Level Eco-School status and the high level of student involvement of our Eco Eagles within our Eco initiatives and programs. Earl Haig teachers are actively involved in guided reading and our goal is to ensure all students are reading by the end of Grade 1. Earl Haig's goal is to ensure all students at all grades enjoy literacy. Our teachers are actively involved in professional development with the Inquiry Model of teaching of Mathematics, such as three-part math lesson sand supporting students with multi-level problem solving questions. Our school goals is to increase access to technology for all students to support students to reach their learning potential.
