Guildwood Junior Public School's Mission Statement

Guildwood Jr. P.S. has been a vibrant part of the local community since it opened as a K - 8 school in 1959. The name Guildwood is associated with the historic "Guild of All Arts" which was founded at the Guild Inn. The school has been the centre of an established neighbourhood for over fifty years.

Our school has a computer lab, library resource room, gym with stage, enclosed courtyard and a large playground. There is a daycare centre for school aged and pre-school children in the school.

Our staff consists of a principal, 8 teachers and 5 FTE support staff.  Primary students receive Music and Physical Education instruction from specialized teachers. Itinerant Vocal, Band and Strings teachers provide additional music support.

Creating Responsible Citizens

Our goal is to provide a safe and caring learning environment so that all of our students reach their maximum potential. We promote responsibility through our character education program and monthly recognition assemblies. We are environmentally aware and have been an ECO platinum school for the past 7 years. We recognize the uniqueness and diversity of our students through announcements, presentations and celebrations. Students have many opportunities to become involved in extracurricular activities before school, at lunch and after school. We provide a morning snack program.

WHAT SETS US APART

Guildwood Jr. P.S. is the centre of a vibrant community which has a history of enthusiastic involvement. Despite our small size we offer our students a huge range of clubs, sports and activities. Our parents are warmly welcomed into the school. We have an active school council which works hard to provide special events and financial support. We create connections with our community partners. Currently a group of seniors from the PROBUS group volunteer in the morning to read with our primary students. The volunteers record the books the students read together in their reading logs. Once a page is filled, the students has earned a trip to the treasure box. The seniors and students both love the experience. We welcome many partners into the school including students from OISE University of Toronto, Centennial College, Seneca College and Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate, Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate. Guildwood is a truly kind , caring and welcoming school that is at the heart of our community.
