Galloway Road Public School's Mission Statement
Galloway Road Public School opened in 1958, and is a small JK to Grade 8 school, serving approximately 220 students. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where high standards are set and students are expected to pursue their personal best. We endeavour to attain excellence through academics, character education, the arts, and athletics. We strongly believe in the potential that each child possesses and we strive to ensure that each child reaches his/her goals. We value the diversity of our students and community and offer an inclusive curriculum. We also value and work with our community in order to assist students in achieving high academic and personal goals, as well as becoming life-long learners.
Student Success
At Galloway Road, our goals are inspired by our commitment to facilitating improved student success. We provide a rich program which is culturally responsive and high expectations are set. We demonstrate this in many ways, including: using assessment and evaluation data from various sources to inform teaching, undergoing school self-assessments to determine our programming needs, creating and implementing our school improvement plan for student success, and participating in ongoing Professional Learning Communities.

At Galloway Road P.S., we value...
Our caing and safe school culture is built on a foundation where students, parents, and staff have a shared understanding of expectations, and where caring and mutual respect are evident in our daily interactions. Our Character Education teaching encourages students to set high standards for behaviour and to respect themselves, others, and their environment.
Literacy and Mathematics
A strong literacy and math program is delivered and teachers and students collaboratively develop learning goals and success criteria. Through descriptive feedback, teachers provide guidance to improve learning and design next steps for instruction. Higher order and critical thinking skills are a focus for all lessons.
Assessment & Evaluation
The primary purpose of student assessment is to improve learning. Assessment has the greatest potential to improve learning when it is an integral part of classroom activities. Teachers assess student progress on an ongoing basis by using strategies such as student presentations, observations, portfolios of student work and tests.
Model Schools for Inner Cities
Galloway Road is part of the Model Schools for Inner City initiative. We adhere to the five essential components: 1) Innovative teaching and learning 2) Support Services to meet social, emotional, and physical well-being of students 3) The school as the heart of the community 4) Research, review, and evaluation of programs 5) Commitment to share successful practice

GO TEAM
Due to our dedicated and talented staff, our students have many opportunities to take part in co-curricular activities. Not only can students participate in sports, such as basketball, volleyball, cross country, and soccer; but we also expose the students to the world of gardening, the Arts, and eco schools, just to name a few. A wide variety of leadership opportunities are offered to encourage students to explore their interests. For example, student announcers, office helpers, peer mediators, safety patrollers, student council, library helpers, etc.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Galloway Road also brings the
community into the school. We partner with
Toronto Public Health, with the goal
of bringing programs into the school that help our students
increase self-esteem and develop leadership skills. With the assistance of our Community Support Worker, we are able to host different workshops like Yoga, First-Aid, and Home Alone. We also have parent volunteers who assist with many areas of school life. For example, with our Snack Program, on excursions, in our library and classrooms, driving students to events, etc. Students also benefit from presentations by the Community Liaison Police Officer, theatre/dance groups, and other community groups.
