The Centennial Road staff are dedicated to:
- providing a balanced approach to literacy and numeracy instruction,

We come to Centennial Road Jr. P.S. to learn to be
the best person we can be no matter what obstacles come our way. We will work to be a successful and a caring person in our communities. Language For Communication
Students use their skills and knowledge to speak, view, listen, read and write to respond to, create and understand information. We are teaching our students to communicate effectively by introducing various writing forms, utilizing the writing process, sharing key strategies (detail, voice, organization, conventions) and providing authentic opportunities to learn.
Problem Solving in Mathematics
Learning mathematics is more than a mastery of basic skills. Students are provided with opportunities to learn mathematical structures, operations, processes, patterns and language in all five math strands. Our focus is for our students to use these tools (knowledge and skills) to reason, justify conclusions and express ideas clearly when solving problems.
Partnerships With The Community
At Centennial Road Jr. P.S., we are creating partnerships with our community to support the curriculum, to create a shared responsibility for our community and to enhance the relevance of learning. Our partnerships include the Toronto Police Services, the Scarborough Centre For Healthy Communities and coop and job placements from secondary and post secondary institutions.

Student Life - Where You Belong
GO TEAM
- Students are given the opportunity to participate in various co-curricular activities at Centennial Road. Students may choose to be involved in intramural teams in volleyball, basketball, cross country or track and field. We also have an Eco club, Games Club, Chess club, Me to We club, and folk dancing.
- Students eat lunch in the gym on a number of folding lunch tables supervised by lunchroom supervisors. Pizza lunch is provided most Mondays as a fund-raiser for the School Council.
- Students enjoy the use of the rock climbing wall, triple hoops, benches and trees recently installed for the completion of the Playground Learning Environment project phase one.
- Band and string programs are provided for students in grades 5 and 6 under the direction of itinerant music teachers. Students in other classes benefit from the instruction of an itinerant vocal music teacher.
- Students actively participate in fundraisers such as the Terry Fox Run, and the Food and Toy Drive for the Scarborough Centre For Healthy Communities and a neighbouring community.
WHAT SETS US APART
- Extended French Grades 4 to 6 is offered to students interested in learning French for fifty percent of the day. The students come from ten different schools in the area starting in Grade 4 and study in French for Drama, Dance, Physical Education, Art and Social Studies. English, Mathematics and Science are taught in English. We also offer regular programs for grades four to six.
PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Our School Council meets about eight times a year to discuss issues relevant to the school and the community. They promote a welcoming school culture focused on respect and building positive partnerships. We have many parents active on committees for fundraising, special projects and pizza lunches which occur most Mondays of the year.
We are grateful for parents who willingly drive students to intramural athletic events and donate uniforms and equipment. We also have a large number of parent and community volunteers who read with students and assist in the classrooms. Our families support their child by attending interviews, concerts, school activities, sports events and award assemblies, assisting with homework and providing authentic opportunities to learn at home and in the community.
