Cedar Drive Junior Public School's Mission Statement

Cedar Drive Junior Public School officially opened in 1970 and received its name from the many cedar trees that once populated the area. Since 1970, we continued to experience growth, resulting in a diverse population where our learning community learns, shares and celebrates with one another.Cedar Drive takes pride in our sense of belonging amongst our students, staff and families through our vision of shared ownership of educational excellence. Our staff is committed to providing  opportunities and high quality instruction to support and empower our students to set them up for lifelong success. We strive to be the centre of our community, forging solid relationships and partnerships  that contribute to a culture of learning.

Literacy Initiatives

Reading provides the foundation for all education. Cedar Drive is committed to literacy growth for all students.We continue to provide balanced literacy, school wide assessment, classroom libraries, programs and culturally relevant texts and resources. We engage students in cross-curricular learning and embed technology to promote deeper learning and understanding.

Numeracy Initiatives

Numeracy is a tool used in everyday life. Cedar Drive is committed to developing mathematically literate students with a positive attitude toward math. Students are taught to understand, remember and apply mathematical concepts and to be deep and flexible thinkers.

A Community of Learners

Cedar Drive works closely with parents and community partners to support the physical, social and emotional needs of our students. Character Education, hearing and vision screening, nutrition programs, kindergarten readiness, student recognition, co-curriculars and excursions all address the needs of the whole child developing well-rounded, competent students.

Global Compentencies

Throughout all areas of the curriculum, we are beginning to explore, Global Competencies and their interconnectedness to our rapidly changing world. Through collaborative, inquiry-based projects, and embedded technology, students deepen their learning through questioning and critical-thinking, and strengthen their digital fluency.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

Activities are offered to students at every grade level: Choir, Sports Teams (Cross Country, Basketball, Volleyball, Touch Football, Bordenball, Softball, Soccer, Track & Field), Kilometre Club, Houseleague, Reading Clubs, Folkdance, Orff, Band, Strings, Drumming, First Lego League Robotics, Games, and Floor Hockey. Students also have opportunities to serve as leaders: Cedar Leaders,  house league  referees, Library Helpers, Cedar Ambassadors, Reading Buddies, Recess Readers and Kindergarten Helpers. Recognition and Cedar Spirit assemblies celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of student contributions to our school.
 

WHAT SETS US APART

Cedar Drive is equipped with three gymnasiums, numerous student Chromebooks and ipads, a STEAM  ( Science, Technology, Engineering , Arts and Math) room, a grand library and a sound proof music room to assist with our programming. We also have an outdoor classroom where we tap our maples in the Spring!
 
Cedar Drive is #1...just ask anyone who attends this school!  The school culture and sense of community make us special.   "We're All in this Together" is our theme song and expresses best  how our school works as a team to achieve our goals. Our staff and students look forward to coming to Cedar Drive every day.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We value parent and community partnerships on our School Council, as volunteers in the classroom, nutrition program, library, school trips, special lunches, and as support for fundraising. Community support agencies are active in our school: Public Library, Public Health, STRIDES/Aisling, City of Toronto Parks and Recreation, Faculties of Education, Centennial College, 43 Division TPS, Settlement Workers, and our local Daycare Centers.
Cedar Drive houses a number of programs for our community members including Adult ESL and conversation classes, International Languages, Nutrition Programs, Parent and Family Literacy Center, Parent Workshops, Ready, Set, Go, Summer/March Break programs and Family Celebration Nights (including caregivers and translators for many of these programs).
