Birch Cliff Public School's Mission Statement
Birch Cliff P.S. is a school steeped in the history of Scarborough. Mrs. Reece, the first principal at Birch Cliff, left a journal dating back to 1916. Entries provide a glimpse of life at the school; successes at the Agincourt and New Market School Fairs, watching children perform in concerts, spelling bees, plays and contributing to the war effort in WWII.
Our school focus on academics, athletics and the arts parallels the school’s vision of almost a century ago! We recognize the part our school played in the history of the community and know that the tradition of high expectations has remained steadfast at Birch Cliff. As a partnership of staff, parents and students, we will continue a great heritage.

Our Community
In 1916, Birch Cliff Public School was constructed at the corner of Birchcliff Avenue and Stop 7, Kingston Road. The first room of the original four rooms was completed for September 5, 1916. Over the years, rooms and wings have been added. The first class consisted of 43 students with Mrs. Ellen Reece, Principal. Today we serve over 360 students, many of whom are second or third generation Birch Cliff students. In 1991, over 1,600 former students returned for the school's 75th anniversary.
