Pleasant View Middle School's Mission Statement

Pleasant View Middle School is a vital and exciting place of learning for  students, staff, and parents. We transitioned from a Junior High School in September 2017.  Our student population is representative of 38 countries with our students speaking 35 different languages. A large percentage of students have a primary language other than English.  Resource teachers provide assistance for students with special needs in both integrated classrooms and small tutorial settings. Since the school opened as a Junior High School  in 1971, the school and the community have continued to develop a strong partnership that helps students to be successful. Staff and parents work closely to ensure smooth transitions to and from the middle school.

High Academic Standards

Pleasant View Middle School  will continue the long tradition from the junior high school of having high academic standards in all subject areas for all of our students. Rubrics and success criteria will be embedded in all assessments to support student work.  Assessments and assignments will be differentiated to support the various learning styles of our students.  Staff offered extra help throughout the day to support students who are experiencing difficulties.

The Math department works collaboratively together to deliver a consistent and thorough program to all the students. The following components of Mathematical tools are utilized in Grades 6, 7 and 8:
 PROBLEM SOLVING, REASONING AND PROVING,
SELECTING TOOLS AND COMPUTATIONAL STRATEGIES,
REFLECTING, CONNECTING, REPRESENTING, and COMMUNICATING.  Students are assessed using a variety of tools such tests, quizzes, performance tasks, presentations and projects. Extra help is always available and students are encouraged to ask for help as soon as they face challenging units.
