Pleasant Public School's Mission Statement
Pleasant Public School is situated on Pleasant Avenue south of Steeles Avenue between Yonge and Bathurst Streets. This building shares space with the Peckham Teachers' Centre, Special Events and Media Productions, and Administration Offices.
- The school has an enrolment of approximately 400 students representing approximately 20 language groups. More than two thirds of our students have a primary language other than English.
- As well as regular school programs, we host two special programs which draw children from other schools -- a Middle Immersion/ Extended French program for grades 4, 5, and 6 and a Diagnostic Kindergarten program. A daycare centre is housed in the school and we also host an EarlyON Centre.

Literacy
Our focus continues to be moving our students forward by letting assessment drive instruction. This allows us to focus on a specific learning expectation that our students are struggling with, and through staff collaborative planning and the use of success criteria and descriptive feedback, move our students forward.
Numeracy
Our goals: continuing to improve student performance in mathematics by: providing support for teaching patterning and algebra, geometry and spatial sense and more focused instruction on application and thinking skills. We continue to use technology to engage our students and focus on problem solving skills.
Pathways
We have established partnerships and offer the following services to our community: Settlement Education Partnership Toronto (SEPT) - Russian worker available -EarlyON Literacy Centre on site -Daycare available on site-Active Parent Council. Our students transition to RJ Lang, Fisherville and Willowdale.

Our dedicated team of teachers work to create opportunities for all students to develop their character and build on their successes. By providing a safe and caring learning environment our students and their parents know how we value each child and the partnership between home and school. At Pleasant we believe that encouraging students to develop a passion for learning is embedded in the skills we teach, the problem-solving processes we model, the physical and health activities we program and the lessons in character we promote.
PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Community volunteers and seniors who assist children in a Booster Reading program- Host to EarlyON Family Literacy Centre - Host to co-op students from the local high school and to education students from York University and the University of Toronto -Partnership with the Russian Outreach Initiative for the Family of Schools and the SEPT Project - Active partnership with our Pleasant Day Care- An active Parent Council with many enthusiastic members - Regular fundraising initiatives and school spirit events - Parent volunteers who assist in the school's library and classrooms and Literacy Initiatives for the whole school - Parents who organize pizza lunches-New Russian/Ukrainian parent orientation sessions each term organized by Settlement Workers.
