Elia Middle School's Mission Statement

Elia Middle School is named after the original farming community of Elia. It is a school with a highly diverse student population. In 2011, Elia became part of the Model Schools for Inner City Program. We achieve student success through the Five Essential Components for Model Schools. They are Innovative Teaching and Learning; Support Services to meet the social, emotional and physical well-being of students; Embracing School as the Heart of the Community; Participating in Research, review and evaluation of students and program; and Sharing Best Practises. We value a strong partnership between our students, staff, parents and community.

School Focus for This School Year

Our school focus for the 2019-2020 school year is improving student achievement in Literacy and Numeracy. We have an emphasis on cultivating a safe and caring environment, as well as Pathways, by ensuring smooth transitions from Feeder Schools to Middle School and from Middle School to Secondary Schools. These transitions will ensure that students are adequately prepared to meet their academic needs in receiving secondary schools. We are also using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) projects and a rich offering of Arts opportunities to increase student engagement, and to raise student achievement across the grades.
