Highview Public School's Mission Statement
Highview Public School is located in the Downsview community in the Jane/Wilson area of Toronto. The school was built in 1956. A two-storey addition was built in 1971 adding a new gym, a library, and five more classrooms.
- The school serves approximately 200 students, born in Canada and around the world.
- The Highview-Wilson Childcare is housed in the school building.
- We have three Special Education classes. One for Kindergarten children, two for students with developmental challenges.
Model School Initiatives
We are part of the Model Schools for Inner Cities program. Our vision for student success is founded on the Five Essential Components for Model Schools: Innovative Teaching and Learning; Support Services to meet the social, emotional, and physical well-being of students; School as the Heart of the Community; Research review and evaluation of students and programs; and Sharing Best Practices.

Nutrition Program
Through the generosity of our volunteers/staff and our partnership with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS), Highview offers a Mid-Morning Snack Program.
In order to off set some of the costs, we suggest a monetary amount to be paid during the year by families who can make the contribution to the program.
Highview's Positive School Discipline Plan
At Highview our goal is to have students reach their maximum learning potential and we work together to create a safe and welcoming learning environment. The Highview Positive Discipline Plan is designed to teach our students the behavioural skills, concepts and knowledge necessary to become respectful, responsible and self disciplined learners.
Student Success
Our program is shaped by a variety of sources of data. We prepare our students for major transitions as they start school through our Welcome to Kindergarten program, grade transitions and grade five to six support. We have a nutrition program and every student takes part in Daily Physical Activity. We have community connections with outside agencies.
Staff Development
Staff work together to create the best learning environment for our students. We gather and analyze data to determine student achievement levels and use it to guide planning. We engage in team planning and professional learning communities to ensure consistent delivery of curriculum across grade levels. We continue to develop our literacy and numeracy rooms.

GO TEAM
Student life at Highview includes a multitude of rich learning opportunities for the academic and social development and growth of each student in a friendly, safe and productive environment. We want every student to feel included, challenged and successful.
We provide English as a Second Language instruction and Special Education programs to support students in the classroom. Character Development and equity initiatives aim to develop a sense of responsibility and respect. A balance of activities and curriculum ensure that the students with many different interests can be involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom.
