Broadlands Public School's Mission Statement
Broadlands Public School is located north of Lawrence Ave. near Victoria Park Ave. The school opened in 1960. In 1973, Broadlands became a French Immersion school and then a single track French Immersion school in 1986. We are unique in being one of six single track French Immersion schools in TDSB. We currently serve approximately 300 students.
The majority of our students arrive by bus. From Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3, all instruction is in French with English introduced in Grade 4 for one period per day. Grade 5 students work half day in French and half day in English. Please visit www.tdsb.on.ca/french for more information.
To promote a safe learning environment, staff, students and parents follow our school Code of Behaviour available both in French and English. The Code is sent home at the beginning of the year and is also located in the student agenda. In the agenda and on our website, you will also find safety rules for the bus and for recess.
Our website includes an on-line calendar which is regularly updated. Our monthly newsletter is updated monthly and found on the web site to communicate all of the great activities that are taking place at our school!
Broadlands is proud of the support given by the many parents and community volunteers in school programs and numerous family events. We work as a true team. À Broadlands, on est magnifique!
The Arts at Broadlands
We, at Broadlands, have made a conscientious effort to bring the arts to the school. We also have dedicated Music and Drama teachers who work hard to keep the arts alive in our school. Our School Council subsidizes a wide range of performances and concerts, most coming from Prologue for the Arts and many of them are presented in French.
We have a number of extracurricular activities that support the arts curriculum at lunchtime. Art classes, Glee Club, choir rehearsals, just to name a few!

GO TEAM
Broadlands prides itself in its extracurricular sports activities. We have both Boys' and Girls' Volleyball and Basketball School Teams. We participate in Family of Schools Soccer meets and are also regular participants in the Cross-Country competitions.
Students are also able to participate in a wide variety of lunch-time activities. Staff give of their time for these activities. Some examples are: Soccer Club, Art/Drawing Clubs, Eco-Club, just to name a few. There are also some paid lunch programs as well, such as chess, guitar, piano, art and LEGO classes.
WHAT SETS US APART
We are very unique, in fact, there are only six schools like us in the TDSB. We are a single track French Immersion school. This allows our students to live a very French life while at school. We are able to do our announcements in French and also able to book shows in French.
We have many local schools that feed into us, so we have to make our OWN community. We do so by offering special events like concerts, Spring Fair, Welcome Back Barbecue in order to find ways to get our "many" communities together. Many of our students live quite a distance from the school, so it is important to find ways to make us "one" community....the Broadlands' community.
PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Broadlands has a very active Parent and Community Involvement. Our School Council organizes an annual Welcome Back event and a Spring Fair, involving our entire school community. They offer many other supports to the school, such as fundraising activities, subsidizing of concerts, organizing of pizza lunches, support of our skating program and sports programs.
We work with our local police division on a Value, Influences and Peers for our Grade 6 program and all classes have yearly visits and discussions with our school police officer on appropriate grade-level programs. Our Community Liaison Officer has partnered with us to train and meet regularly with our Grade 5 Bus Monitors.
