Beaumonde Heights Junior Middle School's Mission Statement
Beaumonde Heights Junior Middle School is located in a residential community in the North-West quadrant of the city. The school opened in 1959 as a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. From 1970 until 1984, the school operated from Kindergarten to Grade 5. After 1984 it reverted to a full elementary program. The school draws from a very rich and diverse community. There are many different languages spoken by members of the Beaumonde Heights community.
We have an enrolment of approximately 500 students.
We believe that all of our students have the ability to learn given time and support. Our supports of our students include Literacy Support for our Primary students, English Language Learner support for all of our students, and Resource support for students that require extra support.
We also have the International Languages program for students in our immediate community wishing to learn Spanish, Tamil, Somali and Gujarati.
We also embed understanding of Indigenous Education and culturally relevant and responsive teaching into our daily teaching and learning.
School Improvement Teams
Our SIP committee has created a plan to focus on using guided reading strategies to improve student reading achievement, increasing student communication and thinking through the use of Number Talks, building Thinking Classrooms (3-8) and embedding Indigenous Education in various curriculum areas. Staff meet regularly for professional learning, sharing of student work, and monitoring student progress on regular basis.

Beaumonde Heights JMS achieved Platinum Eco Schools certification last year. Our Eco Team members organize various eco initiatives (Walk to School Days) throughout the year. Teachers are provided with ample Professional Development and resources to assist them with embedding environmental literacy in their Literacy, Social Studies and Science curriculum.
Equity
Our mission at Beaumonde Heights Junior Middle School is to provide each student with the skills they need to succeed. We select our learning resources carefully to reflect our school community.
It is essential for our students to see themselves represented in the resources used where their identities and lived experiences are honoured. We continue to teach through an anti-oppressive stance where barriers are removed, having high expectations for all students, integrating cultural competence, and developing critical conciousness.

GO TEAM
Students at Beaumonde Heights are encouraged to assume leadership roles. The Beaumonde Action Committee engages students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 in activities which serve to build staff and student morale, contribute to the efficient running of the school and provide role models for the younger students. Our older students along with their teachers also work in partnerships with younger students and their teachers to deepen their learning and understanding in various areas of the curriculum. Some of the activities that these children may be seen to engage in include being reading buddies, math problem-solving, art and information technology. Our senior students assist with the implementing of some of our school-wide activities such as the Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart, Electives, our Spring Mix, and our Character Education and other assemblies. Each year we have what we have named our Extravaganzas which highlight different areas of the curriculum. In the last few years the areas highlighted have been Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Health and Wellness and Science and the Environment. These events would not be possible without the contribution of our older students.
WHAT SETS US APART
The entire Beaumonde Heights community values learning and strives for excellence. Our students are the focus of our school and we address their success with an extremely high degree of intentionality. Our classrooms are all student-centred in which rich activities are consistently provided with a focus on higher-order thinking skills. Student voices are evident throughout our school. We value curricular and co-curricular activities to enrich the lives of our students and to provide them with opportunities that they may not have outside of the school environment. We work collaboratively to share effective teaching strategies in Professional Learning Communities. Our students are encouraged to discover and explore their learning styles and our teachers use this to meet their individual needs. Beaumonde Heights is a warm and pleasant environment in which to teach and learn.
