Remembrance Day at the TDSB

Categories: News

Each year, Remembrance Day is a time for us to reflect and pay tribute to the sacrifices of the generations of Canadians who served – and continue to serve – our country, both at home and overseas. This day holds immense significance in acknowledging the sacrifices made by these brave individuals – many of whom were once students at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

As Remembrance Day occurs on a Saturday this year, schools will primarily mark the day today – Friday, November 10. As part of events taking place across the system, students and staff from Harbord Collegiate Institute held an assembly – attended by TDSB Chair Rachel Chernos Lin and Director of Education Colleen Russell-Rawlins – that included presentations focusing on Indigenous Veterans' contributions to World War I and Harbord veterans' contributions to World War I. We encourage you to take part in Remembrance Day memorials that are being held in communities across the City.

On November 8, we also annually mark Indigenous Veterans Day to commemorate the many First Nations, Inuit and Métis people of Canada who served in every war. We know it is vital that as part of Reconciliation efforts, we recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by all who have served and continue to serve Canada.
