Park Lane Public School hosts special event focused on Italian Heritage Month

Categories: News

Students and staff at Park Lane Public School celebrated Italian Heritage Month with a special guest.

Author Bruna Di Giuseppe-Bertoni read a portion of her book, I Call My Grandmother Nonna, to students on Wednesday, June 5th. Di Giuseppe-Bertoni was born in Rome, Italy, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1964. Her children’s book follows a young girl named Franca who enjoys spending time with her Nonna while discovering that many of her friends call their grandmothers by different names too.

“The notion of ‘our stories’ is central to Italian Heritage Month and Bruna gifted us with HER story today,” said Simona Emiliani, Principal, Park Lane Public School

“It was great to balance critical learning with fun and celebration.”

The festivities included accordion entertainment by Enzo Di Palma, Italian treats, and OMNI TV, which featured a segment on the event, that aired on the same day at 6:30 p.m.

Italian Heritage Month had been proudly recognized at the Toronto District School Board since 2012. This year’s theme is Sharing Our Stories and Embracing Our Future/Condividere le nostre storie e abbracciare il nostro future.
