Grade 10 Literacy Results

Results from the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) for 2017-18, stayed the same at 81%, compared to 2016-17. At the same time, the proportion of successful first-time eligible students in the province declined 2 percentage points (81% to 79%).

Following the release of EQAO and OSSLT results, TDSB staff, administrators and teachers analyze the data to determine appropriate strategies, programs and initiatives aimed at improving student achievement, specifically in mathematics, as this is a priority across the province and in the TDSB.

Moving forward, we will continue to identify new and innovative ways to connect with students and use a variety of resources and technologies to help students make real-life connections with mathematics and improve their knowledge, skills, and proficiency in mathematics. All schools will review EQAO results to identify areas where more support is required and will ensure that this is reflected in school improvement plans. System resources will be provided where necessary and we will also focus on supporting teachers to build their capacity in mathematics content knowledge and to identify effective classroom practices in teaching mathematics.

“Teachers in classrooms across the system work every day to support student success and provide students with what they require to develop strong skills in reading, writing and math. Today’s results are an overview of achievement across the system and will be used to help with planning at the system and school level.”
