The Toronto District School Board has launched a guide to help parents and guardians better understand the Ministry of Education’s 2010 re-issued Health and Physical Education Curriculum (HPEC).

The guide includes helpful information regarding the 2010 re-issued HPEC (Grades 1-8) including grade-by-grade highlights of what’s being taught, comparisons to the previous curriculum and Questions and Answers.

Based on a preliminary review of the curriculum by Board staff, many critically important topics remain, although the wording may be different than the 2015 curriculum.

The TDSB has also provided a number of resources to teachers and principals that will help them to deliver the curriculum. .

Quick Facts

  • All the latest information on the Health and Physical Education Curriculum, including the parent guide and letter to parents can be found on the TDSB website: www.tdsb.on.ca/HPEC2010.
  • The secondary school 2015 HPEC (Grades 9-12) has not been changed by the Ministry of Education.

“There’s not a lot of information out there that explains what kids will be learning. That’s why we felt it was so important to be able to clear up some of the confusion around the curriculum by creating this helpful guide for parents.”

Robin Pilkey, Chair, TDSB

“When dealing with such an important issue, clarity is critically important. By launching the parent guide and by providing resources to staff, we hope that we can support parents to understand what we’re teaching and how we’re teaching it, while also supporting our teachers to serve students.”

John Malloy, Director, TDSB
