The Toronto District School Board welcomes today’s decision by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on the Better Local Government Act, 2018.

The Court struck down the legislation that was to reduce the number of Toronto City Councillors from 47 to 25 to match provincial and federal riding boundaries

The TDSB was granted intervenor status in support of the City’s legal challenge to overturn the legislation. The TDSB filed evidence with the Court that should the Better Local Government Act, 2018, be struck down, the TDSB could return to the previous trustee ward boundaries that were based upon the original 47 city ward model.

Quick Facts

• Earlier this year, the TDSB voted to adjust its 22 Trustee ward boundaries to align with the 47 City Councillor wards following months of public consultation.

“We have said since day one that to change Toronto’s electoral boundaries in the middle of an election and without any opportunity for public input is unfair and not reflective of reasonable public expectations for consultation. We are pleased with the court decision and the Board will proceed with its boundary realignment plan based on a 47-ward council that was developed after six months of consultation.”
