Toronto District School Board

Before- and After-School Programs

At the TDSB, Before- and After-School Programs are offered to provide children with more opportunities to learn. Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) and qualified staff lead these play-based programs in ways that extend the learning that happens during the school day. These programs also allow children to further develop their social skills while engaging in a variety of meaningful activities. Before- and After-School Programs include a mix of exploration, guided and independent activities, quiet time and outdoor play.

Before- and After-School Programs are offered by third-party child care or authorized recreation providers in schools where there is sufficient confirmed interest by families. In schools that do not currently have a Before- and After-School Program, parents/guardians are asked to complete the Before- and After-School Program Parent Survey of Interest. For more information, speak to the school Office Administrator or Principal when registering your child.

If there is already a Before- and After-School Program at the school, it is recommended that parents/guardians connect directly with the third party provider for more information, including details about registration, days and hours of operation, as well as program fees. Before- and After-School program fees are in the range of approximately $29-$38.

Families receiving a child care subsidy may request to have it applied towards the Before- and After-School Program fees. Child care subsidies are supported through the City of Toronto. To apply, visit the Toronto Children’s Service website or phone 311.

To learn more about the Before- and After-School Programs, please contact the office at your local public school or visit the City of Toronto website.
