We take pride in preparing today's generation for the world of tomorrow.
The Toronto District School Board is a world leader in education. We have our eyes set on the future and we take pride in preparing today's generation for the world of tomorrow.
We are incredibly proud of the great work and successes of our students and system this year. To name just a few examples, our students showed steady and consistent gains in math and literacy test scores. We released the largest youth census in Canada, enabling us to adjust supports that further strengthen schools and help every student succeed. In September, we opened the doors to Canada's first full-day kindergarten school – the Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy. And, we launched the TDSB's Solar School Project, which supports our commitment to being one of the greenest school boards in Canada and links classroom learning to the real world.
This year however, has not been without its challenges. What it provided us though, was a valuable opportunity to reconsider and re-evaluate our purpose and our work and I know it has made us stronger. We have a renewed focus on sound management, organizational efficiency and fiscal accountability, ensuring every dollar we spend puts learning resources and tools directly in the hands of students. Every dollar must be seen as an investment towards improved student outcomes.
We are guided in these efforts by our Years of Action: 2013-2017 plan, an ambitious and inclusive plan that will impact the entire TDSB community, including staff, students and the public for the next four years. The plan includes 36 targeted, measurable and actionable goals to improve the outcomes of every learner.
As we look to next year and beyond, we will continue to work every day to ensure that our students get the most from their time at the TDSB and that every decision we make supports their success.
